A Rylie update...

I've heard people talk about a switch when all of a sudden children really start talking. Rylie's switch is now on. It is really amazing how all of a sudden we have gone from normal words like more, down, water, ball, shoes, etc. to having a parrot in our house. While her pronunciation isn't completely understandable in everything she says, the number of words is multiplying daily, and we are now very careful with the words we say versus the words we spell. Despite all of her new words, Rylie's favorite is "No!" I will admit, this gets annoying rather quickly. Though sometimes, Adam and I do start laughing out loud when we ask Rylie a question (something that will prompt her to do one of her "tricks") and she very matter of factly looks at us and says "No," and proceeds to go about her business.

When I picked Rylie up at school one day last week, her teacher told me that all day Rylie went up to every other child in the class and while wagging her finger back and forth said "No! No! No!" Apparently, Rylie did this when children were eating their lunches, reading books, and doing other normal and appropriate things. The funny thing is that we don't say "No!" to Rylie all that much. Unless something is truly dangerous or very rude, we really let her explore pretty freely. Some people could look at this behavior and consider Rylie to be bossy, we just like to believe that she is a born leader :-)

One of Rylie's favorite words is "bra." This is highly embarrassing as we walk through Target and pass the lingerie section and there is my 17 month old- pointing and screaming "Mama, bra! Mama, bra!" I can't help but laugh. Adam, on the other hand, is completely mortified.

Last week, I had the RNC on in the background (we are still waiting for Rylie's "My Mama's NOT for Obama!" shirt to arrive) and Rylie and I were doing some puzzles on the floor. All of a sudden, Laura Bush came out to speak and Rylie shot up from the ground, ran up to the television, started clapping along with the audience and waving, repeatedly screaming "Hi Nana!" I had to laugh- I mean, the resemblance between my mother and Laura Bush is closer than that of Adam and Kobe Bryant, but still not so close.

As I've mentioned, Rylie is fearless. I often wonder the origins of this. Are children wired to be fearless or fearful, or somewhere along the spectrum? Do they all start fearless until adults instill fear in them by continuously telling them to be careful? One possibility I've eliminated (at least in Rylie's case) is that fearlessness is not ended after falling, scrapes, bruises and blood :-) In a nutshell, that is what our past 10 days have looked like. We are VERY thankful, no serious injuries, but man- this girl keeps us on our toes. It started with some scrapes in Sedona. Then Rylie collided with an older child at the splash fountain and ended up with a bloody, scraped up knee. A few days later, Rylie fell into a shelving unit at school and acquired a big bruise on her cheek. And the grand finale of the week- Rylie was running (she rarely walks these days) at the splash fountain on Friday, fell face first on the ground, and had her top two teeth go into her upper lip. It was not a pretty sight. Thankfully, once the tears were wiped and the blood was cleaned up, all we were left with a big gash on the inside of her upper lip and some swelling. All of her teeth are in place. But man, this girl is one tough cookie! She still hasn't stopped. I took her to the park yesterday and thought perhaps she would be a bit more cautious given these recent incidents, and there was still no fear. Maybe it is just how she is wired.

Rylie is big into dressing up these days. Unless I occupy her hands with her water cup and a cracker, she usually won't leave the house without her purse (please see black sequined hand bag from previous postings,) her sunglasses, and her beaded Mardi Gras necklaces. And she loves wearing Mommy's dress shoes.

Some pictures....

As previously mentioned, Rylie is all about accessories these days!

Have I mentioned that she is growing up WAY too fast? This is such a fabulous age. We are completely enjoying life with Rylie as it seems each day brings some new discovery. Pause button, please?

Until next time....

Love to everyone!

She continues to be spectacular! And I think they are fearless because they don't know they should be. For the most part, they are washable and a band-aid goes a long way, especially for a miniscule boo-boo. You just have to stay close, kiss those boo-boos, and encourage the exploring and the learning.

My 7 year old grandson asked me very casually the other night, "Grammy, how do you get pregnant?" Followed by "And how does the baby get out?" I gulped, suggested he ask his parents, and quickly changed the subject! Ths was because a teacher in his school went into labor and had to be taken to the hospital. There were probably a lot of parents gulping that night!

Keep on having fun with her because, as you are learning, time goes by so quickly and she changes even more quickly.

Love!!

Rylie and Tougy continue to go through things at pretty much the same pace. The fearlessness. The running. The words. The leader/bully thing. It is really great to keep up with you three. Our love to you all. Take Care.

Hi Sara,
It was great to see an update! How cute that Rylie is going through a *talking growth spurt.*

You just had me cracking up about her saying the word bra aloud in the store and calling Laura Bush Nana! What did your mom say? How cute I didn't know they had "My mama's not for Obama" T-shirts?

Anyway, it sounds like each new day brings more surprises to you. That's wonderful!

She is a hoot. I love the dress up and accessories! It really is amazing how each day brings something new. It is so much fun to watch them discover and grow. I have to tell you that I am tired at the end of the day. I have to chase Rustam around to avoid many possible hazards even after childproofing. He climbs on anything including his toys. So I can't imagine what it will be like to chase a child who is running all of the time like Rylie. I love seeing her personality in the photos.

WOW! She's talking so much already! Aila has only just started words at 19 months. But I have heard about that "switch" as well, and I know once it starts, it never stops! Riley is a cutie, but I am glad that they haven't found the Nobama t-shirt for you! Smile.
Glad things are so great. She's a DOLL!

Oops. Sorry I spelled your sweetie's name wrong. Rylie! xoxo

Rylie sounds like a little dare devil. I can totally envision her pointing and shouting "bra mama"—it would be fun to see it captured on video. At least she's not saying "bra papa." For some reason, Garrett has a hard time saying "girl", so he's constantly praising me with "good boy mama."

The photos are darling—Sara, your little girl would make a great model. Keep on posting.

Oh what a great post!

I'm waiting for one of those tee-shirts too! :-)

Man our girls are so similar. I just had to sign 2 incident reports in a row for running and falling and scrapping knees and back and what not. Our evenings involve the slathering of lots of Neosporin. But she doesn't seem to mind it all.

The purse and beads are just too awesome! She's a rough and tumble girly-girl. You just can't get any better than that!

What a cutie. I really hope the lip healed up well. BTDT too, and it just makes us parents wince to watch them eat and drink that first day or two. :-|

She's such a beautiful girl and that is such a fun age!

How unfortunate they sell shirts like that. ;-) I joke. She will look cute in anything, even that shirt. I am amazed each day they way Josh just says random things that I never do. I love this age.

Your little Rylie is as cute as ever! And although I don't know you guys very well, I can see that she is growing up quickly! Enjoy every moment (of course, I can tell you do).

No news yet on our LOI. Come on!!!

Guess I wouldn't be able to make use of a little "My mama's NOT for Obama" shirt this time. I'll just stick with my bumper sticker of a similar theme. ;)

Love your stories of Rylie's favorite words!

Cute post! Rylie is getting so grown up already! I bet she is something else to keep up with as Berik went through the fearless stage. He still goes full blast but has common sense and/or understands that you can't jump off the deck, run through doors or jump off stairs. Thank God, the sense kicked in as he was really wild. We will have to get Rylie a shirt like Beriks that has a graph that shows.. 30% cuts/scrapes 40%bruises 20% dirt etc.. it's pretty cute. Rylie is adorable by the way. Great post! Gena, Jaimie and Berik

oh my goodness, just what i needed this morning after one two many piva's at Kelly and Doug's apt last night. I am living it up until Leeza graces me with her presence. :)

I am so glad Rylie is ok, after her accidents. Not all kids are fearless like that-Sean was not. I was just talking to Gena Lloyd and she said Berik is the same way and she was warning me about how overstimilated Leeza will be when she comes to the apt and I better get my sleep now.
Maybe it's too much of a broad statement to make, maybe it does depend on the child, but seems to me all the Kaz kids i hear about are fearless. I think spending your first few months in a baby house make you fearless and tough. Leeza constantly has bruises on her lil head, and bonks her head all the time and never sheds a tear. The kids fall all over each other and step on each other and rip toys out of each others hands..total survival of the fittest in the playpen. Whoever screams loudest or looks cutest gets fed first...they are funny to watch compete to be chosen next to eat.

Rylie is adorably adorable and I love the photo's. I love how she is a diva like her momma....I hope that Leeza will also understand the importance of accessories....

For now, she wears unmatched outfits of several layers.....and I still find her enchnanting. :)

Happy Rosh Hashanah!! I read your story about Rylie and I can see Yulia in each and every word, I think this is very age specific. They are very cute, but we do need to be so careful and patient with them. I love the update and the pictures. She is adorable.

Love the photos of your accessory queen! And too funny that she thinks Laura Bush is her nana! It's exciting to see her growing up -- even if it's too fast!

Milo says about 30 words now. He also is a little muddy with his pronunciation on some of them, but we know what he means. For instance "go outside" is "go a guy." :-)

And I can sooo relate on the fearlessness. Milo is danger mouse!

Well, I hear him waking up. I just wanted to stop by to see what's new and let you know I'm thinking of you!

Regina
